Vestibular Rehabilitation

A physiotherapist implements specialized and individualized exercises to relieve symptoms and discomfort of various disorders affecting the inner ear. Symptoms may include dizziness, unsteadiness, vertigo and nausea. Vestibular conditions are commonly caused by:

  • Head Trauma (MVA, falls, sports injuries)

  • Inner ear infections

  • Aging

  • Certain Medications

  • Stroke and brain injury

  • Certain illnesses or diseases

A physiotherapist will guide you through a series of head movements to help eliminate or decrease symptoms. The treatment program may include any of the following:

  • Specific gaze stability exercises

  • Repositioning manoeuvres for BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)

  • A home exercise program)

  • Vestibular or habituation exercises
